Industrially Assisted
2020/2021
Industrially Assisted is Chloe’s BA (Hons) graduate project from BA Ceramic Design, Central Saint Martins from 2021. It is centred around the value inequalities of industrially produced ceramics and misconceptions of mass production in comparison to products labelled as ‘handmade’. Through extensive research, the project identified marks and textures off the handmade process, such as throwing lines, as holding significant visual interpretation that consumers associate with traditional craft and human skill with attribute their judgement of value. Throughout, the project retaliates by exposing industrial ceramic production processes and sensitively elevating the natural occurrences to a conscious physicality, which encourages the consumer to assess the products value and credibility as handmade piece.
